Privacy policy · Where your data goes

Know where your data goes

Addresses expire, but the boundaries of data processing should be clear. Here’s how we use information in temporary inboxes, forwarding accounts, and browser sessions—and the choices available to you.

Effective date: Applies to inbox and forwarding services provided at fadeinbox.com

01 · Scope

First, know which kind of address handles your email

This policy covers FadeInbox’s auto-expiring email inboxes, email verification-code login, long-term forwarding aliases, and their management features. For boundaries on how you can use these features and their service limits, see the separate Terms of Service.

Here, “burner email” means an inbox that automatically expires. It does not mean messages are deleted as soon as they’re read, or that using the inbox is completely anonymous. Websites may identify you through registration, your network connection, or information you provide. Switching to a temporary address doesn’t erase those links.

Not sure which type of address to choose? Start with the difference between disposable email and long-term aliases. For important uses such as banking, work, identity verification, and account recovery, we recommend an email address you control directly over the long term.

02 · Data categories

We process the information needed to receive and forward email and keep the service secure

Temporary inboxes

We process generated email addresses, access credentials, creation and expiry times, and the sender, recipient, subject, message body, attachments, and receipt time of incoming messages. We use this information to receive email, display message lists and details, download attachments, and carry out extensions, deletions, and expiry.

You don’t need to log in to use a temporary inbox, but its access credential grants access to that inbox. Keep it like a key: don’t share request URLs containing credentials, debugging screenshots, or browser storage contents publicly.

Long-term forwarding accounts

Login and forwarding require us to process your real email address, information needed for verification codes, login sessions, alias addresses, and whether aliases are active. Forwarding also involves processing message content, delivery results, and related archives so we can deliver incoming email to your real inbox and help troubleshoot failures.

If you enable two-step verification, we also need to store authenticator settings for verifying time-based codes. The setup key and QR code are sensitive. Don’t attach them to support requests or share login verification codes with anyone.

Operational and security information

Providing network services and preventing abuse may involve processing IP addresses, request times, API paths, response statuses, and error or delivery logs. We use this information for rate limiting, troubleshooting, and security investigations. It is separate from the expiry and deletion of temporary email content.

We don’t make unverified promises about “zero logs,” end-to-end encryption, a fixed data storage location, or logs being deleted at the same time as email. If your use case has specific compliance, location, or retention requirements, contact support to ask about them before using the service.

03 · Retention

Three different clocks—not one countdown

Check the inbox display and the status returned by the service for a temporary address’s actual expiry time. Reading a message doesn’t reset the countdown or trigger immediate deletion. If you need more time, extend the address while it’s still active.

The 30-day archive for forwarded email is a separate feature; it doesn’t mean temporary messages are stored for 30 days. Closing a page, logging out, or clearing browser data does not submit a deletion request to our servers.

3 hours

New temporary address

The default validity period described on this page. Once it expires, the address stops working and its messages and attachments are deleted.

+3 hours

Per successful extension

Added to the original expiry time. Check the updated countdown to confirm the extension worked.

30 days

Forwarded email archive

Lets you view forwarding records and message content. It does not mean the account or aliases are deleted after 30 days.

How long different data is kept and when it is deleted
Data Retention period or trigger What to know
Temporary addresses, messages, and attachments When the address expires or the entire inbox is successfully destroyed. Deleting one message manually affects only that message. After expiry, you can’t recover it by logging in again.
Extended temporary inboxes Each successful extension adds 3 hours. The updated expiry time is the one that applies. Clicking isn’t the same as success. If a request fails, don’t assume the inbox’s lifespan has been extended.
Forwarded email archive Kept for 30 days. You can also delete records early from the dashboard. Deleting an archive does not recall copies already forwarded to your real inbox.
Account, alias, and session information Not automatically deleted when a temporary inbox expires or the forwarding archive period ends. You can manage aliases separately. Contact support about data requests related to your account.
Operational and security records Managed separately from email retention. This page does not specify a fixed number of days without confirmation. Contact support to ask about the specific scope and applicable limits.

Auto-delete only applies to data managed by this service. It can’t delete records held by sender websites, attachments you’ve downloaded, screenshots, or messages delivered to other inboxes. Before taking action, check the expiry planner to confirm whether you still need to receive messages.

04 · Your controls

Delete, replace, or deactivate—each does something different

Before taking an irreversible action, check for verification codes, order notifications, or confirmation emails that haven’t arrived yet. Save anything you need to keep somewhere safe, but don’t retain sensitive information longer than necessary just for convenience.

These actions affect different things. In particular, deactivating an alias only stops future forwarding; it does not delete your account or clear existing archives.

Delete one temporary message
Removes the selected message. The address can still receive email for the rest of its validity period. Deleting a message does not remove your account relationship with the sender’s website.
Get a new temporary address
Once successful, you’ll use the new address and the old inbox will be destroyed. The old address and its messages can’t be recovered. Update any unfinished sign-up forms; messages sent to the old address won’t be forwarded automatically.
Destroy the entire temporary inbox
Once successful, the original address and its messages are no longer available. If there’s no separate option to destroy the entire inbox, choose “Get a new address” to discard the old one or wait for it to expire. Closing the tab does not destroy it.
Deactivate or delete a long-term alias
When deactivated, the alias stops forwarding new messages, which are discarded. Re-enabling it won’t recover messages received while it was inactive. Deleting an alias removes it; don’t assume you can claim the same address again. Any existing forwarding archive must be handled separately.
Delete an archive or log out
Deleting an archive removes the corresponding records from this service, not copies in your real inbox. Logging out ends your account session in the current browser; it does not delete aliases, your account, or a separate temporary inbox.

Manage temporary email in the inbox on the home page; manage long-term aliases and forwarding archives in the long-term forwarding dashboard. If a button reports a failure, treat the original state as unchanged. Don’t assume a failed request completed the deletion.

05 · Browser and email content

Treat local keys and incoming content differently

Access credentials in your browser

Browser storage remembers temporary inbox credentials, login tokens, and your login email so the relevant state can be restored when you refresh or return to a page. Temporary inbox credentials and long-term account credentials are separate; logging out of your account does not also clear a temporary inbox.

On a shared device, log out after using long-term forwarding and clear this site’s local data if needed. Clearing local storage may make it impossible to restore access to a temporary inbox, but it won’t delete your account, aliases, or active messages from our servers.

External email and third-party content

Email comes from external senders and may contain links, remote images, attachments, or tracking content. Real HTML emails are sanitized and displayed in an isolated reading frame. Remote images are restricted to reduce risks from active content and external loading.

These safeguards don’t endorse the sender’s identity, link destinations, or attachment safety. Following external links or opening downloaded attachments may expose you to data processing by third-party services. Don’t trust a message just because it appears in your inbox.

The WhatsApp and LinkedIn emails marked “Demo” on the home page are sample content. They don’t mean these brands sent you real email. If a message looks suspicious, don’t reply, enter your password, or share a verification code with anyone claiming to be support.

06 · Your rights and contact

Questions about your data? Ask us directly

To ask about this policy or submit a data request—such as access, correction, or deletion—under applicable law, email support@fadeinbox.com. Tell us what kind of request you’re making, which service it concerns, and roughly when the issue occurred so we can find it. For account requests, we recommend writing from the email address used to log in.

To prevent accidental deletion or disclosure to the wrong person, we may need to verify your connection to the relevant account or data. Don’t send login verification codes, temporary inbox access tokens, authenticator keys, or full message contents. If we need supporting information, we’ll explain what to provide.

What we can do depends on applicable law, the information we can verify, and what data the service still retains. Destroyed temporary messages can’t be recovered. Copies in other people’s inboxes and records held by sender websites are also outside our direct control.

When this policy changes, we’ll publish updates on this page and revise the effective date. We’ll handle changes that require additional notice as required by applicable rules. We recommend reviewing this page when you enable a new feature or change how you use the service, and reading the Terms of Service too.

Write to us about privacy—without sharing secrets

Tell us whether you use a temporary inbox or long-term forwarding, and what you’d like to know or resolve. Don’t include verification codes or share your inbox key.
